Habitat builds and repairs simple, decent homes for families who demonstrate need, willingness to partner, and ability to pay. Homes are sold to or repaired for the families at 0% interest through a mortgage/loan held by Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country.
The target population served by Habitat are those households that fall below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) adjusted annually according to HUD figures and to the size of the partner family. In Carbon County, the maximum gross income for a family of four is $49,440. In Emery County, the maximum gross income for a family of four is $50,700.
Habitat builds in partnership with the community, local businesses and the family itself. Habitat is not a giveaway program. Families put in a minimum of 500 hours of “sweat equity” into the house, working on-site during the construction process and pay a mortgage for the full cost of the house.
The “Habitat Way of Building” results in a lower house cost by utilizing volunteer labor along with local and national partners that provide materials in-kind.
Habitat for Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.
